DESCRIPTION:
James hd Brown’s Carpe Diem Press publishes limited-edition artists’ books featuring the work of influential artists from the United States and Mexico. Join Brown, internationally acclaimed photographer Graciela Iturbide—one of the artists in the Carpe Diem series—and Art Division founder Dan McCleary for a hands-on bookmaking workshop. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to make your own artist’s book with guidance from some of the most talented practitioners of the form.
This workshop is presented in conjunction with the USC Fisher Museum’s exhibition James hd Brown: Life and Work in Mexico from Tuesday, September 19 through Saturday, December 2, as part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA.
About the Artists:
Born in 1951 in Glendale, California, James hd Brown relocated with his family to Oaxaca, Mexico, in 1995 and founded Carpe Diem Press. Collaborating with Linotípográfica Quintas, Brown creates limited-edition artists’ books featuring the work of influential artists from the United States and Mexico.
Graciela Iturbide was born in 1942 in Mexico City. She has had solo exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Getty Museum, among others, and has been honored around the world, with a Guggenheim fellowship, the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie Award, the Hasselblad Award, and the National Prize of Sciences and Arts in Mexico City.
Dan McCleary is an artist and the founder of Art Division, a non-profit organization dedicated to training and supporting talented artists in the MacArthur Park area, some of whom participate in a residency program at the USC Fisher Museum.
