ADMISSION: 
Admission is free and open to USC students only. Reservations required. RSVP beginning Monday, February 1, at 10 a.m. 

Participants must use public transportation with the group. Check-in will begin at 11:30 a.m. on campus. The tour will depart at 12 p.m. and conclude at Grand Central Market at 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided at Grand Central Market. 

DESCRIPTION: 
How do cities remember and forget the communities that once lived there? Explore the dramatic transformation of Downtown Los Angeles in an immersive experience focused on Bunker Hill, one of the most significant sites of redevelopment and displacement in Los Angeles.  

Participants will begin at the Los Angeles Public Library’s Special Collections, examining maps, photographs, redevelopment records, and other historical materials that reveal how Bunker Hill was reshaped over time.  

A guided walking tour of Bunker Hill will then bring those stories into the present. Participants will compare historical records with the built environment, and consider how decisions about housing and redevelopment continue to shape urban life today.

This walking tour is a part of From the Map to the Streets: Redlining & Resistance in L.A,, a three-part series that looks at how the history of Los Angeles is written into its neighborhoods. Through conversations, hands-on activities, archival exploration, and guided walking tours, uncover how redlining shaped the city and influences housing, infrastructure, and environmental justice.
