Non-fiction is a year-long art exhibition at The Underground Museum that investigates, either explicitly or implicitly, the culture of violence perpetrated on black citizens. The complex, emotionally charged show features works by Kara Walker, Henry Taylor, and Marion Palfi on loan from the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Artists Theaster Gates, Robert Gober, David Hammons, Deana Lawson, and Kerry James Marshall have also lent work for the exhibition.
Founded by the late artist Noah Davis along with his wife, the artist Karon Davis, The Underground Museum in Arlington Heights is dedicated to ensuring that contemporary art and ideas are accessible to all L.A. residents. In 2015, MOCA and The Underground Museum launched a multiyear collaboration that will realize exhibitions developed by Noah Davis to display works from MOCA’s esteemed collection at The Underground Museum. Non-fiction is the second iteration of this collaboration.
Presented by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative. Non-fiction is made possible with support from the Aileen Getty Foundation, Daniel Crown and Crown Family Philanthropies, and the VIA Art Fund.
