DESCRIPTION:
“An incredible experience. Go go go.”
—Actor Clementine Ford

From Gina Young, the award-winning writer/director of Tales of a Fourth Grade Lesbo and Femmes: A Tragedy, comes a new punk musical about three sisters who may or may not be witches. Trapped in the drawing room of an old Victorian house, the sisters embody famous sisterly triads in a psychedelic, stream-of-consciousness trip through time. From Chekhov’s Masha, Irina, and Olga to the three main Native American crops (squash, maize, and beans) to the Catholic Holy Trinity to the first three waves of American feminism, the sisters take on shifting ideas of sisterhood through time. With a live band, haunting three-part harmonies, and a throwback to the secret witchy rituals of girlhood, sSISTERSs explores memory, family, mortality, the queer feminist identity, and the struggles of being a woman artist.

Gina Young is a Los Angeles–based theatre artist whose work seeks to redefine musical theatre with contemporary music, queer theory, and feminist sensibilities. Her work has been seen at REDCAT, Highways, WOW Café Theatre, and many other venues. Young is a recipient of the Jane Chambers Playwriting Award. (Twitter)

Presented by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative. Organized by Karen Tongson (English and Gender Studies) and Luis Alfaro (Dramatic Arts).
