DESCRIPTION:
Trans people are more visible than ever before in mainstream film and television. But the relationship between representation, rights, and justice is complicated. Is Hollywood helping or hurting struggles for gender justice? And what are the ethical and political dimensions of hiring trans actors to play cis characters, or cis actors to play trans characters? Transparent’s Alexandra Billings, actor and musician Elliot Fletcher, performer and writer D'Lo, and GLAAD Transgender Media Program director Nick Adams will explore these questions and more as they consider how we got from Transamerica to Transparent.
