A 46-Hour Durational Performance by Raegan Truax

DESCRIPTION: 
Performance artist Raegan Truax will perform in the same place, a 46-hour durational performance that draws inspiration from the queer heritages held both at ONE Archives and within Truax’s own body as a living archive. The work showcases Truax’s queer feminist methodologies of staying with, listening through, and laboring beside traces that refuse to settle. 

In a political moment haunted by violence against queer and trans life, Truax asks what it means to stand where others once stood—to breathe in proximity to their desire, fear, labor, refusal, and survival. Have we arrived “in the same place,” or does queer time fold strangely around us, collapsing there into now, the future into something already remembered in the body? 

How to Experience in the same place: 
Because the performance unfolds continuously over an entire weekend, no two visits will be the same. Visitors are welcome throughout the performance, which begins Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. and concludes with a brunch on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

in the same place is a part of a month-long residency with durational performance artist Raegan Truax at ONE Archives that explores themes of power, connection, exhaustion, and embodiment. The residency will also include archival research, a student workshop, an artist talkback, and an exhibition at ONE Archives.

Bio: 
Raegan Truax is a durational performance artist, scholar, and educator whose work explores time, embodiment, and queer feminist performance practices. They hold a PhD in Theater and Performance Studies from Stanford University and MA degrees in Performance Studies and Gender Politics from New York University. Truax is the founder of ON DURATION and executive director of Creative Body Institute. Their work has been presented internationally at venues including CounterPulse in San Francisco, Berlin Art Week, ZK/U Berlin, Cité internationale des Arts in Paris, and SOMArts in San Francisco. Their work is also featured in Marina Abramović Institute’s Immaterial Archive. They are committed to an overtly queer and feminist durational practice that challenges masochistic tropes of endurance. For them, it is a practice of risk, struggle, vulnerability, connection, presence, and possibility. @raegan.truax
