DESCRIPTION:
USC students are invited to experience a trilogy of works by Canada’s preeminent contemporary dance company. Led by artistic director Medhi Walerski, Ballet BC is well-known around the world for pushing the physical and emotional boundaries of contemporary dance with performances that are “visually stunning and emotionally profound” (PBS).  This special performance will also include student artists from the USC Kaufman School of Dance.

Following a whirlwind of European commissions and awards, New Nappi is the first creation by Florence-based dance artist, choreographer, and KOMOCO artistic director Sofia Nappi for North American audiences. Known for its theatricality and expressivity, the rising star’s work has been called “joyous” by Seeing Dance.

SWAY, a new piece with choreography by Walerski, is an intimate ode to resilience and collective hope. Taking inspiration taken from the lines of Emily Dickinson’s “Hope is the thing with feathers,” the sophisticated work for seven dancers shines bright, infused with elegance, nuance, and Walerski’s inimitable movement language.

Shahar Binyamini’s BOLERO X is a fresh interpretation of Ravel’s iconic composition and pure celebration of dance marked by breathtaking synchronization. Members of The Soraya’s resident company and students from USC Kaufman will take part in a monumental work that been hailed as breathtaking, a triumph, and a sweeping expression of joy.
