DESCRIPTION:
USC Roski welcomes back 2019 alumni Patrisse Cullors, Alexandre Dorriz, andnoé olivas. Together, they founded the Crenshaw Dairy Mart, an artist collective and art gallery dedicated to shifting the trauma-induced conditions of poverty and economic injustice, bridging cultural work and advocacy, and investigating ancestries through the lens of Inglewood and its community. The artists will discuss the imagination of new collective memory through programming, events, arts installations, and more.
Bios:
Patrisse Cullors is an organizer, author, and co-founder of Black Lives Matter and the Crenshaw Dairy Mart. She is also a performance artist, Fulbright scholar, popular public speaker, and Sydney Peace Prize recipient. Cullors is currently the faculty director of Prescott College’s Social and Environmental Arts Practice MFA program.
Alexandre Dorriz is a research-based artist, gallerist, organizer, and co-founder of the Crenshaw Dairy Mart. Dorriz received his MFA at the USC Roski School of Art and Design and is an inaugural professor for the Social and Environmental Arts Practice MFA at Prescott College.
noé olivas is a printmaker, sculptor, performance artist, and co-founder of the Crenshaw Dairy Mart. Olivas received his MFA at the USC Roski School of Art and Design and is an inaugural professor for the Social and Environmental Arts Practice MFA at Prescott College.
