DESCRIPTION:
In Sell/Buy/Date, Tony and Obie Award–winning playwright and performer Sarah Jones portrays a dazzling medley of characters inspired by the real-life experiences of people affected by the sex industry. Brimming with Jones’s masterful, multicultural characterizations, the exuberant show presents an honest, moving, and humorous look at a complex and fascinating subject—all while preserving the full humanity of voices seldom heard in the theatre.
The acclaimed show will be followed by a discussion with Jones and Q&A with the audience.
Bio:
Known for the multi-character, one-person Broadway hit Bridge & Tunnel, originally produced by Oscar winner Meryl Streep, and the critically acclaimed show Sell/Buy/Date, Sarah Jones has been called “a master of the genre” by The New York Times and “a one-woman global village” at TED 2009. Her TED talks have garnered nearly six million views, and she has performed at the White House and the United State of Women Summit for President and First Lady Obama. She also performed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The daughter of two physicians, Jones was educated at the United Nations International School and Bryn Mawr College, which led to her becoming a vocal advocate for the empowerment of women and girls globally. In her role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, she has performed for audiences around the world, and raised awareness of issues including ethnic, racial, and economic disparities in the United States.
Most recently, Jones launched Foment Productions, a social justice–focused entertainment company. Sell/Buy/Date was its first production. Foment Productions is co-producing a docuseries with Imagine this fall.
