DESCRIPTION:
Join USC interim president and former president and CEO of the Aerospace Corporation Wanda Austin and Dean Yannis C. Yortsos of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering for an exclusive advance screening of First Man, preceded by a discussion with former astronauts and USC alumni Charles Bolden, head of NASA from 2009 to 2017, and Garrett Reisman, director of space operations at SpaceX. The panel will be moderated by USC alumna Anita Sengupta, a rocket scientist and aerospace engineer currently working on hyper loop technology.

On the heels of their six-time Academy Award®–winning smash La La Land, Oscar®–winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong’s perspective, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the film explores the triumphs and the cost—on Armstrong, his family, his colleagues, and the nation itself—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

First Man had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and has shown at the Telluride Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival. It is scheduled to be released on October 12.

Presented by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative,  the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, and NBCUniversal.
