DESCRIPTION:
The Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO) has produced alumni who have toured with Beyoncé, choreographed for Mariah Carey, and performed with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. For almost half a century, the company has been renowned for innovation, creativity, and preservation of African American dance forms. Embodying a legacy of nurturing new generations of dance artists and building bridges across cultural divides, PHILADANCO’s exquisite dancers will grace the Bovard Auditorium stage with an electrifying celebration of African American dance.
Founded in 1970 by dancer Joan Myers Brown, who wanted “to come back home and teach in my community and offer some young black girl the opportunity that I wasn’t afforded,” PHILADANCO is committed to empowering youth with crucial leadership and development skills that facilitate achievement and success in dance and in everyday life.
