Join us for a timely conversation on race, representation, and the arts between actor John Cho (Better Luck Tomorrow, American Pie, Harold & Kumar, and Star Trek) and Pulitzer Prize–winning novelist Viet Thanh Nguyen (The Sympathizer). Exploring their overlapping interests in film, literature, and Asian American representation, Cho and Nguyen will illuminate the challenges faced by Asian American artists, and the opportunities and pitfalls of a career in the arts—for Asian Americans and for everyone.

About the Participants:

John Cho
became a household name when he starred as Harold Lee in the cult comedy franchise Harold & Kumar. Other notable credits include American Pie, Star Trek Beyond, Selfie, and Kogonada’s new film, Columbus. Born in Seoul, Cho was raised in L.A., where he currently resides. (IMDb, Wikipedia)

Viet Thanh Nguyen is the author of the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel The Sympathizer and the Aerol Arnold Chair of English at USC. He is also the author of Race and Resistance: Literature and Politics in Asian AmericaNothing Ever Dies: Vietnam and the Memory of War, and the short-story collection The Refugees.
